Five Game Challenge Day 27: Autumn Sale is On

The Steam Autumn Sale has kicked-off. The first sale since writing about better extracting value from the games I have. The first test of will. Will I pass? Will I succumb and make a new batch of impulse purchases?

Early indications are… Yeah. I mean, this sale runs up until December 3rd. So we’ll have to see. That date carries us beyond the point of being able to play different titles again. But more importantly, this would be a rather short post if I didn’t at least take a peek at might tempt me.

To the wishlist!

I have 192 things on the wishlist at the moment.

That is actually a relatively culled list. Although it might be time to run through it again soon. I try to cut out anything which has been on it for more than 3 years. I figure if I haven’t bought it by that point, I’m not likely to ever do so.

But I have to jump down to #15 before encountering anything on sale. It’s Rage 2 and 67% off. But that’s still $38NZD and given its ‘Mixed’ reception, still more than I’d like to pay. Pass.

Jumping down to #23, I find 50% off Ace Combat 7. $50NZD though. Still… No! Bad Nait! Pass.

I have Last Epoch sitting just above Ace Combat at #22. If it was on sale at all, this would be quite tempting. I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy this against better judgement. It’s a mixed rating title. Still quite heavy on the ‘early’ part of ‘early access’. But conceptually it could be right up my ally.

But without even a token discount… Pass.

Plus! Grim Dawn just had a mega update. They reworked essentially all the loot generator affixes, reworked epics and legendaries and even added in a new Rogue-like dungeon. Given I still haven’t tried out the most recent expansion despite buying it (I think) last Christmas… Well, might be time to give it a shot once this month is over.

But the top of the list is only one place.

To the bottom!

…Yeah, I don’t sort the list terribly often. So a lot of my recent additions end up down there.

Untitled Goose Game currently right at the bottom, actually. Good ol’ #192. The planned release date for Steam isn’t until ‘Late 2020’ though. So I’m sure it’ll end up in the middle of the pack eventually.

Ooh, Disco Elysium is down here too at #184. People have been raving about this one. Overwhelmingly Positive, and 20% off despite only coming out last month.

I’m… I’m still going to pass on it… For now. But once I can play things outside of the Five set for November… It might be this one that I pick up.

And in case you were wondering, here’s what my top 10 in the wishlist currently looks like:

  1. Cyberpunk 2077
  2. Kerbal Space Program 2
  3. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
  4. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
  5. Death Stranding
  6. Transport Fever 2 (25% off for current owners of Transport Fever, if you purchase before launch… Also tempting.)
  7. Subnautica: Below Zero
  8. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
  9. EVERSPACE 2
  10. Doom Eternal

Giiiive meeeeee. :D
