Coming Games of Interest – Blaugust 2025 Edition
'Borderlands 4' and 'Where Winds Meet' Topping the List

So this is something of an irregular feature here on Time to Loot. The last one is from Blaugust 2024, and the very first one goes pretty much all the way back to the start of the blog.

The idea is simple enough though — take a look at the games coming up for release soon that I am looking forward to. More than that — absolutely hyped for.

This will never be a comprehensive list of all the games I’ll play. Games will come out of the blue and surprise me, certainly… But also, I just add more to the collection than I can ever hope to get through in my lifetime, even should I stop buying today.

At some point along the way with these posts, I added a section talking about the games I predicted enjoying, and whether I actually did.

There has been a disconcertingly high number of games I thought I was going to be all about, that, for one reason or another, I never ended up playing.

Games of Interest from Blaugust 2024

I listed three games, and I played two of them. Not a bad ratio for me. And if you look at it funny and kinda squint a little bit, you might stretch me to two and a quarter. Maybe even two and a half — as the missing game I had played before, at its PlayStation release. I just thought I might pick it up again on PC, too.

Black Myth: Wukong is, frankly, amazing. The gameplay trailers we saw in the four years of development often seemed as if coming directly from a game designer’s fever dream. Such doubts didn’t stop me in the slightest from feeling an unhealthy degree of hype for it.

But, I knew what I was doing, and it was certainly at the back of my mind that it could never. But it did!

Black Myth: Wukong ended up being a lot less souls-like and a lot more action-like than I, and I think many others expected, borrowing only lightly from the Souls-like trappings, otherwise content to do its own thing.

God of War: Ragnarok is also amazing. Buuut this is the one I can at best claim partial points for, as its inclusion in the Blaugust 2024 edition of Games of Interest was specifically referencing the PC release.

I had played it already on PS5, and so the PC launch price of $105 NZD didn’t quite sit right. (We weren’t yet to the point of having normalised $119 NZD like we have now!)

I will definitely still get it when a sufficiently deep sale comes around, but until then, I’m content to wait and hold off on a replay.

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is… um. You know- I’m sure they tried really hard.

*crickets*

No, no. I jest. Somewhat. It wasn’t awful by any stretch — although where they chose to end the main story certainly does leave me a little bitter — and if I’m being honest, I also have a much lower bar for my ‘hype’ threshold when it comes to games I’m interested in for the purposes of Multiplayer.

The hype is often more about having something the friend group is interested in than the game itself, and this was certainly the case here.

So that’s my previous list… What about what’s up next?

Game Function in this context refers to whether my excitement for a game stems largely from the Singleplayer experience, or from playing with my friends. Sometimes it’s both!

Before the delay, Crimson Desert would have 100% been on this list. But with it now looking to be a Q1 2026 release, off it goes! Looking through my wishlist for the remainder of the year, there is actually… quite a lot there.

Just none quite to the level of these ones.

The closest would’ve been Fata Deum, Jump Space and Endless Legend 2, though.

Hollow Knight: Silksong — 5 September

I played the first Hollow Knight when it came out on the Switch in 2018. It was the perfect Switch game. The artstyle worked. The gameplay worked. It was the Todd Howard meme1, but non-satirical.

‘Just working’ is a pretty low bar though — but it is fair to say, it blew well past that.2 It had a magic weave of Metroidvania, souls-like, and platforming (of the non-infuriating kind, hah).

Silksong — the follow-up centred on a character you first meet as a boss — was announced back in Feb 2019 and since then… Well; it has been hard to despair of it ever coming out with the radio silence across the intervening years.

But! At long last, we are just about there.

The only question is… do I try it right before Borderlands 4 coming out and heighten the risk of getting distracted, or put it off til some point in the future and risk letting it slip quietly from notice? D:

Borderlands 4 — 12 September

I could not have been more meh about a game if I tried when the game was revealed at last year’s Game Awards. Nothing about it particularly grabbed me.

Which I suppose is an odd way to start about a game now occupying a list on my ‘hyped games’ list.

Funny thing is, it wasn’t even anything that Borderlands 4 showed of itself which changed my mind. None of the trailers to date have done much for me.

No, what it was… Was playing Borderlands 3 again.

All I consciously remembered of the game was the eye strain induced by rolling eyes so hard at the antagonist dialogue.

But actually…?

For all that, it was fun. Turns out, there was a reason my friends and I have played through all three Borderlands games to date, sometimes multiple times!

And it was with that lens some of the gameplay coming out from content creators grabbed my attention a bunch more, and here we are, considering prioritising it against even Hollow Knight: Silksong!

Battlefield 6 — 11 October

The beta was enough to convince my friend group that we want in. It was a blast.

It has been a while since we have all done a Battlefield game together. We had some interest in 2042 (in fact… it made an appearance in the Games of Coming Interest — 2021 Edition), but, uh… That one didn’t end up being so good.

This seems a real return to form, with destruction on par with what my memories tells me Bad Company 2 had. (And no, I’m not interested in going back and proving myself wrong or removing my nostalgia goggles. It’s my favourite!)

But… This is the second game on the list that has some dependence on Borderlands 4; namely — are we done with it by the time this rolls around?

If not, perhaps it awaits a sale, or at least the Christmas break.

Where Winds Meeting — 15 November

Tell you what game isn’t dependent on Borderlands 4 though — it’s this one.

It has actually been on my radar for at least a couple of years, I think the Arekkz channel first introduced me to it. What I didn’t appreciate until quite recently is that it isn’t just a Singleplayer game.

Not only is there co-op, but you can even (optionally) go into a full ‘Online’ mode where it is more of an MMO-lite, with world events/bosses, and the whole nine yards.

Oh- it’s also free.

Which can be boon or bane; but at least how the devs are talking now — the monetisation seems restricted to cosmetics only.

There have been a slew of sponsored videos like this one, where there is clearly a desire to build interest in the West before the release later this year.

It is coming across as a bit of an ‘everything to everyone’ game at the moment, which again… Could be concerning. But the responses so far seem, on the whole, quite positive.

So bring on my SP/Co-Op/MMO Wuxia Souls-Like Action Combat Life Sim game!

Final Thoughts

Borderlands 4 and Where Winds Meet are the two definites on this list.

There isn’t a world in which those two get missed. Although if I had been forced to choose between the two… I think it would be Borderlands 4 that got the boot, honestly.

The other two are trickier to call.

Although I would say that I reckon even should Hollow Knight: Silksong ride the deferral bus for a bit, I’m much more likely to circle back to it. Battlefield 6 on the other hand, if we let that one slide now… Eh.

Maybe we pick it up on a sale somewhere down the line?

Guess we’ll see when the next one of these comes around!
