For instance — I had no idea that Kan Gao also dropped a more jokey ‘It’s just a dream’ style trailer for Finding Paradise (aka ‘2 the Moon’, lol).

In fact that trailer is essentially the same composition as Imposter Factory’s first trailer except with Neil and Eva’s roles reversed as the ‘dreamer’ of the sequence. I’ll get out of your way for a moment to link the new trailer though — this is the ‘proper’ trailer as it were, and gives more of a focus to the actual story being told. Although — I am sure; especially after looking back at Finding Paradise’s ‘proper’ trailer — not without a number of intentional misleads.

Some big events shown in there! And some interesting clues, too.

There is a wedding (real? Rewritten memory? By/for whom?). The heart monitor at the beginning of each of the trailers goes off the rails a bit in this one. The shadow following at the heels of what I assume to be the story’s protagonist. Oh- and a cosmic scale tentacle beast.

Although with how mostly grounded the story’s Kan tells with these games and some of the hints in the specific wording used, I think we can be fairly safe in believing this to be more metaphorical in nature. A threat to an individual’s world, rather than a literal threat to all of Earth.

This is an older tweet from Kan, and it came to mind again in the context of Imposter Factory and trying to determine what the thrust of this one will be.

If you hadn’t seen the earlier trailers, prepare for a few in a row as together they certainly paint an interesting picture!

Finding Paradise (To the Moon 2) Play-Along Sign-Up

Yep! After a bit of a gap since the To the Moon Play-Along, I think it’s time to kick-off for those that might be interested the Finding Paradise Play-Along, in advance of Imposter Factory being with us later in the year.

Tentatively I’m thinking of kicking this off in September with a similar 4-part structure over 4-weeks; this would give it a start after Blaugust Promptapalooza is over to ensure there is a little bit more clear air.

I’ll do a post a little more dedicated to this at some point I’m sure, but if you have any feedback on how the first round went and wish to suggest any changes or considerations for this one, have at it!

Otherwise, here’s the sign-up form!

While I’d love to do more collabs with you and others in the future, I don’t think I’ll participate in the next Play-Along since I didn’t enjoy the game. To The Moon dragged on and I don’t like it :c Act 1 was great and then it just got worse and worse… at least in my opinion. Hope you enjoy yourself though! :)

All good. After this series is done, will likely carry the format through with some other game series!

Also thinking about an XCOM 2 Succession Game at some point, but I think will want to wrap up one or the other of these projects first.

XCOM 2 would be awesome :o

Signed up and looking forward to it! :D

Also, it is the first time I saw most of these trailers. I didn’t know there was a pattern to them. I don’t think I can make any guess about what the theme of the third one will be just based on the trailers alone. But it might be nice to be surprised about it.

    Yay! :D

I don’t know what the short and pithy version of this would be — but I wonder whether this time around it will be about the protagonist wanting to hide in their death, from the very real harm they did in life. Or perhaps one of the misleads is that the girl -> woman, despite the journey through age shown in the trailer, isn’t the one who committed the murders at all but is attempting to solve them using Sigmund Corp’s technology before she dies.

I doubt whatever Neil and Eva found could possibly hold up in court, but even so, I wonder whether this person believes she knows enough subconsciously to put it together — and just hasn’t been able to do so in life yet.

It’s going to be interesting in any case!

I think your conjecture of “hide in their death” might be the one closest to the mark. I thought about the trailer a bit more. If the first one was to “create fantasy from a reality” and the second one was to “try to find a reality in fantasy” then maybe the the third one could be to “destroy reality through a fantasy”. If someone had a really terrible life they might want to see it all destroyed before they die as a kind of cathartic way to leave it all behind.

September’s a little far away for me to predict if I have time available or no. I’ll hop in with whatever prompts are up, if I do find the time, and enjoy vicariously if I don’t.

All good — definitely hope you can though, you had some awesome insights to offer for the first game. I can’t recall off-hand whether or not Finding Paradise fixes some of the more technical complaints we had — but I’m betting on the third entry to release this year to if not. … I mean… It has to, right? xD
