Crimson Desert Got More to Show

With Black Myth: Wukong now in our hands, Crimson Desert came to mind again. It turns out — that too was revealed four years ago. It then went radio silent for three years, although I didn’t cover the videos it put out last year.

So as a bit of catch-up, last year we got:

I’m still quite impressed by how well the horse movement control looks though, with the fancy side stepping into a turn!

Which was just the craziest of hype reel videos, where almost everything conceivable was thrown in to see what would stick with people.

We got combat! We got horses! Horses you can ride- and capture! DRIFTING HORSES, oh and exploding towers! MAGIC! PORTALS! DRAGO- FUGGIN MACHINE DRAGONS! BUT ALSO FISHING! WANT A PET? WE GOT CATSANDDOGSANDOMGITSMADNESSINHERE.

… But goddamnit if it didn’t work.

I was invested. Confusion over whether this thing was an MMO Lite, Co-op Action, or fully single-player, I don’t care — I want whatever those devs are having.

It doesn’t hurt that I quite enjoyed Black Desert Online, which is set in the same world.

Anywho, that trailer came out during Gamescom 2023. If you didn’t know – Gamescom 2024 is presently underway, and sure enough…

Over the last few days, they’ve been releasing ‘boss battle’ trailers like this one on their official channel, taken straight from the playable demo reportedly available on the Gamescom 2024 floor.

So far as I can tell — there is still no officially confirmed release date. Wikipedia suggests Q2 2025, and given there does seem to be decent-sized chunks of the game playable now, this could be within the realm of possibility.

Whenever it emerges though, I am beyond curious to see what comes from this seeming desire to do, and be, ALL THE THINGS.

If they can remotely pull it off, I could see myself happily sinking a good number of hours.

  1. I’m pretty excited about this one; my understanding was that it was going to be single player. If it’s an MMO and I need a bunch of friends to see all the most interesting content then I’ll probably pass. Crossing my fingers for a single player game that looks this good and has this much STUFF in it! LOL

    • I think the MMO confusion was really only thing around initial reveal, and I think it stemmed from a translation error, but my memory on this is now foggy.

In all content since, it does seem to have become very SP focused, and in fact some of the alternate characters controlled in the early trailer haven’t made a reappearance. But whether that is because they are truly no longer playable/creatable, or whether it is just a matter of this character becoming the PR face of the game… shrug

I still hope for some co-op ability, but I’ll be happy enough if they turn out a solid SP game as well. :)
