Time to Loot Journal: Blaugust 2024

I’ve flipped up my order a bit this year. Normally the journal would come first, and then I’d post the wrapping-up Blaugust post. Mostly because it allowed for a little more processing time, and reflecting on what the lessons of the Blaugust-been might’ve been.

But this year, that extra time wasn’t needed.

With several different discussions over the days leading up to the end of this year’s Blaugust, happening just as they did and the time they did, well… This year I knew what my learning was.

The short of it being: It’s time for a change. Next year for Blaugust I don’t intend to aim for the 31 posts in 31 days goal. Instead, try refocus some of the effort that would’ve gone into those posts in being more present in the community, and in particular for our newer members.

Otherwise though! Blaugust also meant less gaming time. What I did get was fun though! … I don’t remember what goals I set in July actually… Guess we’d better look at that! (Oh. That’d explain that. I haven’t set any for a while, between the move of house and Blaugust. I guess that makes sense! Time to set some new ones then.)

Gaming Goals

September Gaming Goals

  • Black Myth: Wukong — Finish Chapter 2 and post about it.
  • Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak — Reach MR4+ and post about it.

The Wukong goal should be fairly easy — I’m already in Chapter 2 with some of the bosses down. I wanted to (and still may) do a post about Chapter 1 of the game, but given my progress on Chapter 2 already — might just wait and do those two together now.

Sunbreak we’ll have to see. I haven’t set the goal too ambitiously (I have the MR3 rank-up priority quest available right now). But September sees the release of Space Marines 2 as a big co-op game for my friends, and possibly something else I’m now forgetting.

Sooo… It might get bounced out for that. We’ll see!

Books Read August 2024

Air travel this month did mean that I got to keep up with my reading. I finished both The Crown Tower and The Rose and the Thorn, the first two entries in ‘The Riyria Chronicles’ series, which recounts the meeting and adventures of Royce and Hadrian in the days before the events of ‘The Riyria Revelations’, which I covered the first two books of here.

I had meant to cover the third here as well, as I read it, and loved it — but just never quite got around to it.

After these three though (I’m over halfway through The Death of Dulgath), I believe there is only one more, and then I’ll be back to waiting alongside everyone else.

… Although there is still Sullivan’s other series which jumps even further back in time, to the period of myth and legend from the perspective of the Riyria books.

And I probably will. Sullivan has definitely become one of my favoured authors!

  1. I’m pretty sure I read those books, between the cover and the character name Royce. But I couldn’t in a million years tell you what they were about.

The one benefit of getting old is that you don’t have to buy any more new books since you can just re-read the ones you’ve read in the past and they seem new again. LOL!

    • I don’t know when these books were published, but certainly the first Riyria series with the same characters has been around a long time now.

In terms of memory… LOL. Yeah, I have the same issue/benefit, but I still don’t re-read a lot because memory has a bad habit of informing me of the main twists/series end at some point while reading. Haha.

Still, sometimes I do enjoy a good re-read even with that being the case.
